SEABOARD HISTORY
Today, Seaboard Weatherproofing and Restoration is widely
recognized as a leading facade restoration and waterproofing
contractor throughout the NY metro
area. Our 70+ year history is one marked by quality
work, exemplary service and continuous evolution to meet our
clients' changing needs.
The beginnings...
Seaboard was founded
in 1944 by Richard L. Ahearn Sr., as an above- and below-grade
waterproofing concern. He ran the business successfully until
his untimely death in 1948. Richard L. Ahearn Jr. then took
control of the company and immediately brought in Jed Holtzman
as an equal partner. The partners specialized in below-grade
membrane and waterproofing applications. They also saw an
opportunity in facade waterproofing
and began repairing all types of facade masonry.
Changing to meet our clients'
needs...
As an adjunct to the facade masonry
repairs, Seaboard started installing various sealants and
coatings, while continuing to operate as one of the premier
waterproofing companies in the Northeast. As the firm earned
recognition for its masonry craftsmanship, many repeat clients
asked us to perform other masonry
tasks in their buildings, including the construction of
cinderblock walls and interior plaster applications. As a
result of this demand, we formed the
general contracting firm, Ahearn-Holtzman Inc. in 1960.
Seaboard and
Ahearn-Holtzman continued to thrive through the 1960's and 70's,
expanding our scope to include
interior renovations. Brothers Richard and Michael Ahearn
joined the firm and soon took on managerial roles, with
Richard running the general contracting side of the business
and Michael focusing on Seaboard Weatherproofing. Their father
ultimately retired, and Richard and Michael became partners in
the purchase of the company.
The rest is history...
During the 1980's, Seaboard
Weatherproofing began to pursue more historic types of facade work involving 100 year-old
brownstone row houses and a major commercial building on the
historic register in lower Manhattan. Although our firm continued to provide an array of
facade waterproofing services, such as
masonry rehabilitation and curtain wall sealant applications,
the demand for quality restoration services increased in
recent years. Today, we are engaged in many high-profile
restoration projects throughout the New York Metropolitan
area.
The move from facade waterproofing
and rehabilitation to historic preservation
and restoration represented a significant step. A
feature article in The New York Times that covered our
work at 90
West Street represents a proud moment in our history. Throughout, we continue to maintain our
standing in the facade waterproofing and rehabilitation
arenas.
We continue to introduce new solutions and materials, and
to provide the wide range of
services our varied
clients demand. We at Seaboard are well positioned and
ready to meet the future needs in our industry - and the
people we serve.
