Estimator Construction Job Responsibilities:

Projects and controls construction costs by collecting and studying information

Must be familiar with the following:

  • All types of masonry construction and repair
  • All types of sealants and coatings
  • Access equipment: swing stage scaffold, pipe scaffold, aerial lifts, mast climbers, etc.

Estimator Construction Job Duties:

  • Prepare the work to be accomplished by gathering information, reviewing requirements and setting priorities.
  • Respond to initial bid requests
  • Schedule bid due dates and attend all site visit walk-throughs
  • Perform take-offs to establish categories, quantities, subcontractors and special resources
  • Prepare cost estimates for one or more projects simultaneously by studying building plans, updating specifications and identifying and projecting costs for each elevation
  • Evaluate offers to purchase by costing changes, additions, and site requirements
  • Obtain bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identify qualified subcontractors; negotiate prices
  • Maintain cost keys and price masters by updating information
  • Resolve cost discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information
  • Develop means and methods for various tasks while pricing
  • Maintain continuity among corporate, division, and local work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

Estimator Construction Skills and Qualifications:

  • Analyze information

  • Reporting, estimating, decision making, teamwork, documentation skills

Must be proficient in: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project Manager, Construction Manager, Microsoft Outlook, On-Screen Takeoff
