Stone Façades and Curtain Walls
2 Meadowlands Plaza, East Rutherford, NJ 07073
The Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel and Conference Center, located just miles from midtown Manhattan, is a popular meeting and leisure destination. In addition to its 30,000-square-foot meeting space, the hotel offers a glass-enclosed fitness center, indoor pool and Jacuzzi with views of the New York City skyline.
Architect Gordon H. Smith called in Seaboard Weatherproofing & Restoration when water leaks along the top of the building, caused by wind-driven rain, were serious enough to warrant a comprehensive repair of all curtain walls. Seaboard resealed and waterproofed the entire building’s façade, including windows and metal-to-metal joints. The team also reflashed and resealed areas at the base of the structure.
The 12 Seaboard employees working on the Sheraton Meadowlands had to overcome an array of challenges. They built scaffolding around the glass skylights over the swimming pool, and because guests were always in the building, were restricted in their work hours. The severity of the leaking also necessitated immediate attention and required working outside through the winter months as the weather permitted.
